Libya Media Development Programme Presents Media Literacy Research Findings in Tripoli
Press Release
Tripoli, Libya – 29 October 2026 – The RNTC Media Training Centre, in cooperation with the Delegation of the European Union to Libya, held the event “Strengthening Media Literacy in Libya: Research Findings” at the Future Library in Tripoli. The event was part of the EU Delegation’s Media Literacy Week and took place within the framework of the Libya Media Development Programme (LMDP), funded by the European Union.
The event presented the findings and recommendations of the study “Media Literacy Methodologies for a Resilient Digital Information Ecosystem.” It also explored how the study can inform media literacy initiatives in Libya, improve access to reliable information, and address disinformation and harmful narratives.
The programme opened with remarks from the EU Delegation and RNTC, followed by a presentation of the study’s methodology, main findings, and recommendations. A panel discussion, “Media Literacy in Libya: From Evidence to Local Action,” then explored how the findings can be turned into practical media literacy initiatives. Moderated by Anas Ben Daref, the panel brought together speakers from local civil society organisations working on fact-checking, the Libyan Government Communication Centre (LGCC), and RNTC. The discussion engaged the audience through a Q&A session.
The event closed with a Q&A session followed by a networking reception.
Speaking at the event, Ambassador Alexis Konstantopoulos, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Libya, said: “For the European Union, supporting professional journalism and access to reliable information remains a key priority. Through the Libya Media Development Programme, and thanks to our close cooperation with the Government Communication Centre, RNTC and our partners, we are turning dialogue into concrete action, creating opportunities for Libyan journalists, media professionals and civil society to shape their own media environment.”
The Libya Media Development Programme is a two-year programme implemented by RNTC. It strengthens the professional capacities of journalists and media actors, facilitates dialogue among media institutions, authorities and stakeholders, and supports the sustainability of media organisations across Libya.
