Eighteen journalists and media makers  from across Libya have completed an intensive training in Public Interest Journalism, held at the Future Library in Tripoli from 11-15 October 2026. The training was organised in coopertation with the Libyan Government Communication Centre (LGCC) as part of the Libya Media Development Programme (LMDP), funded by the European Union and implemented by Netherlands-based RNTC Media Training Centre.

Participants travelled from Tripoli, Misrata, Sebrata, Al Hamdeya and Yefren to take part.

The course introduced a 10-step methodology that combines Story-Based Inquiry with solutions journalism, open-source intelligence (OSINT) and open data, AI and digital risk literacy, trauma-informed practice, and cross-border collaboration. It goes beyond exposing harm, helping journalists identify evidence-based responses and engage audiences in ways that lead to real impact.

Participants learned to build testable investigative hypotheses, map stakeholders and power dynamics, plan safe and ethical approaches to sources and evidence gathering, assess risks, and manage their investigative records securely. Each participant left with an Investigation Blueprint, a structured proposal ready to be developed into a full investigation.

Participants welcomed the practical approach of the training. Ahmed Al Gheblaw said: “The training successfully combined theoretical knowledge with practical exercises, helping participants develop their investigative journalism skills, verify information, conduct research, prepare investigative reports, and exchange experiences with trainers and fellow participants.”

Bushra Ezuli added: “Individual feedback helped me refine and structure my investigative story idea.”

The Libya Media Development Programme is a two-year programme implemented by RNTC. It strengthens the professional capacities of journalists and media actors, facilitates dialogue among media institutions, authorities and stakeholders, and supports the sustainability of media organisations across Libya.
