A Year of Extensive Training and Coaching

In 2024, RNTC successfully delivered 45 training and coaching sessions. These sessions were facilitated by 25 expert trainers and coaches from our extensive pool of experts and covered a broad spectrum of media skills. On average, our trainings received a score of 85% for satisfaction rating.

Key statistics from this year’s training efforts:

  • Total Training Days: 180

  • Total Training Hours: 1,440

  • Total Alumni: 339

Our most popular training in 2024 was Media Campaigns for Social Change and Advocacy, which is no surprise to the RNTC team as it's been a longstanding favourite. According to a participant who attended our 15-day version of the training in the Netherlands, the training is “all-encompassing. Everything one needs to know about planning a campaign is covered by the training.”

With a revamp from our dedicated learning designers, RNTC successfully implemented a new hybrid version in both Nepal and Kenya. This addition of a new hybrid format was designed to better suit the busy schedule of our working participants. The idea is to pair a self-paced learning module, to accommodate asynchronous learning, with the invaluable experience of an in-person training among peers. This pilot implementation was received positively, with a 92% satisfaction rate.

In Nepal, one participant's takeaway was the opportunity to learn from fellow participants, "learning about Love Matters India's challenges in measuring campaign impact provided valuable lessons for our own monitoring and evaluation efforts,” especially based on their “approach to youth engagement and digital media campaigns.”

Adding to the Learning Experience

Last year, RNTC took the learning experience outside of the “traditional classroom.” As part of an initiative with the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, RNTC incorporated thematic site visits into trainings so that participants had the opportunity to further cement their learnings and engage with Dutch organizations.

Some of the organisations that we were excited to work with include:

  • Vereniging van Nederlandse Journalisten (NVJ, Dutch Society of Journalists)

  • Free Press Unlimited

  • InHolland School of Applied Sciences

  • Justice & Peace

  • COC.nl

  • Wo-men.NL

  • AreWeEurope

To compliment our training on Navigating Disinformation around Elections, Ugandan journalists visited NVJ and Free Press Unlimited, which received an overall satisfaction score of 87%. These visits provided them insights into “dealing with journalism in various contexts” and highlighted the “importance of well organised journalism associations/unions in achieving press freedom.”

Trainers

At RNTC, our learning experience is not complete without our trainers. In 2024, we onboarded four new trainers to our growing pool of expertise, increasing and building upon our expertise in:

  • Digital Safety and Security

  • Digital Accessibility

  • Monitoring and Evaluation

Additionally, 2024 was a big year when it came to implementing Training of Trainers, which is a training designed to increase a trainer’s capacity on design and delivery. The Training of Trainers provided a great opportunity for our experienced pool of trainers to keep up with Training Design and Facilitation trends, while allowing for our newer trainers to increase their knowledge. Overall, participants of this training afforded the overall learning experience an 86.5% satisfaction rate.

A highlight was delivering the Training of Trainers to the Yaga Burundi team as a co-creation effort to further build their academy". The participants rated their training experience with a satisfaction score of 93% and were excited to deliver their own trainings stating, “[I] gave a high score because I came out of this training ready to give any training in the media field.

Looking Ahead

As we step into another year, RNTC remains committed to expanding its impact, embracing new challenges, and continuing to empower media professionals worldwide. With a growing network, innovative training programs, and an unwavering focus on quality, we look forward to another year of making a difference through the power of media.
