Rachael Akidi Okwir
Rachael Akidi Okwir is a senior editorial leader and strategic communications expert with over two decades of experience in African and international media.
During her 21-year career at the BBC, she held senior roles including Senior News Editor, Head of East Africa Languages, and Head of Journalism for Africa. She led major newsroom transformations, including expanding the BBC's footprint across the region, modernising legacy services, and driving a digital-first strategy for BBC Africa.
Rachael is the founder of Reebo Consult, a boutique consultancy advising organisations on editorial strategy, AI and digital transformation, strategic communications, and content development.
Rachael is also a media trainer and has worked with organisations across Africa, the UK, and Central Asia. She serves as Board Trustee for Medical Aid Films.
A recognised voice on media innovation and AI, Rachael speaks internationally on the future of journalism, leadership, and organisational transformation in an era of rapid technological change. She publishes The Journovator, a newsletter exploring media innovation and the future of African journalism. She was part of the 2025 AI Journalism Lab: Leadership Cohort at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY.
